Redondo Beach, WA
CATEGORY 3
WHAT
Coastal waters will approach higher-than-normal tides this evening, coming close to flood thresholds but still unlikely to cause significant damage.
WHEN
Highest tidal levels are expected around 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM PDT.
IMPACTS
• Possible minor flooding in very low-lying shoreline areas.
• Brief ponding on roads immediately adjacent to the water.
Analysis of the evening high tide near 19.8 ft, compared with historical Category 3 events, indicates water levels will be elevated but still below the heights commonly associated with significant flooding. Barometric pressure at about 1001 hPa is somewhat lower than average; however, wind speeds remain modest around 9 mph, reducing the likelihood of extensive water intrusion. Absent NOAA flood advisories also suggest only minor impacts.
CATEGORY 3
WHAT
Similar conditions with another elevated evening tide, approaching but likely not crossing the threshold for a more serious flood event.
WHEN
Peak tide is expected late in the evening, roughly 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM PDT.
IMPACTS
• Minor coastal flooding possible in particularly vulnerable spots.
• Little to no property damage anticipated.
The tide is forecast near 19.8 ft again. Although barometric pressure will be slightly higher (around 1003 hPa) than Day 1, it remains under the levels seen in some lower-category historical events. Winds will stay moderate, limiting onshore push. As with Day 1, no NOAA flood risk data is available, aligning with a Category 3 assessment.
CATEGORY 3
WHAT
High tidal levels persist and will once again be near flooding thresholds, but current indicators point to minor impacts rather than widespread inundation.
WHEN
The late-night high tide will peak between approximately 11:00 PM and midnight PDT.
IMPACTS
• Minor water onshore in very low-lying areas.
• Road closures are not anticipated, although caution is advised along the immediate waterfront.
Projected tide heights remain just under 20 ft, with barometric pressure near 1002–1003 hPa. Historically, significant flooding (Category 4 or higher) has been correlated with either substantially higher tide levels over 20 ft or much lower barometric pressure. Given the moderate nature of both factors this day, impacts are expected to remain limited to minor areas of ponding near shore.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.
Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring.
Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
