Redondo Beach, WA
CATEGORY 3
WHAT
Coastal water levels will be elevated, but not expected to cause damage. Although tides will approach levels seen in prior minor flood events, no significant flooding is anticipated.
WHEN
The primary window of interest is near the evening high tide, peaking around 22:42 local time.
IMPACTS
Minor inundation of very low-lying spots along the immediate shoreline is possible. Roads farther inland are unlikely to be affected.
• Tide heights will reach approximately 19.8 ft late in the evening.
• Barometric pressure around that time is expected near 1004 hPa, which is moderately low but not as low as in more severe historical events.
• Historical reference: Category 3 events have been observed with similar or somewhat higher tides (e.g., ~20 ft) and somewhat higher barometric pressures (e.g., 1020 hPa).
• Conditions are worth monitoring but are unlikely to cause higher-category flooding.
CATEGORY 3
WHAT
Water levels will again become elevated around high tide. Overall risk remains in the lower range for flooding, with no major expected damage.
WHEN
The midday and late-night high tides (around 11:12 and 23:18) are the key periods to watch, with the higher water levels during the later tide.
IMPACTS
Minor ponding in the lowest coastal areas is possible but should not affect most roads or shore-adjacent properties.
• Peak tide heights remain below ~20 ft, similar to Day 1.
• Barometric pressure near the late high tide is about 1003 hPa, somewhat low but not approaching the much lower pressures seen in serious flood events.
• No NOAA flood risk data is available for this period; however, conditions do not compare to historical Category 4 or 5 episodes, which involved higher tides or far lower pressure.
CATEGORY 3
WHAT
Elevated tides continue, with some chance of very minor shoreline flooding. Pressures are projected to be moderately low, but the tides do not reach the thresholds typically associated with more hazardous flooding.
WHEN
Highest concern is late evening (approximately 21:42 to midnight) when tides could approach ~19.8 ft.
IMPACTS
Localized minor flooding could affect shoreline walkways, low-lying paths, or beachside parking areas. Widespread or damaging flooding is not expected.
• Tide heights are again just under 20 ft, still below the higher levels (>21 ft) that have historically caused more significant flooding.
• Barometric pressure could be near 1000 hPa, which is lower than on Days 1 and 2, but not low enough to elevate risk substantially.
• Wind speeds are moderate, unlike prior severe flood events with stronger onshore winds.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.
Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring.
Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
