Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2025-10-18

CATEGORY 1

WHAT
No flooding is expected. Although the tide will reach significant heights (around 19 ft) in the mid-afternoon, the very high barometric pressure (around 1031 hPa) and NOAA’s 0% flood likelihood indicate no risk of coastal flooding.

WHEN
Highest tide near 15:06 local time, but no flooding concerns are anticipated during or after this peak.

IMPACTS
No observable impacts. Roads, low-lying areas, and shoreline properties are unlikely to experience any flooding.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• Historical comparisons show that even when tides reach around 19–20 ft, significantly lower barometric pressure (below ~1016 hPa) and stronger onshore winds typically contribute to coastal flooding.
• Current high pressure values, calm winds, and a NOAA flood likelihood of 0% all support the assessment of no flood risk.

Day 2: 2025-10-19

CATEGORY 1

WHAT
No flooding is expected. Tide heights could approach similar levels as Day 1, but barometric pressure near 1032 hPa is very high, and NOAA’s forecast indicates 0% likelihood of flooding.

WHEN
Highest tide near 15:24 local time, with no indication of flood conditions.

IMPACTS
No impacts anticipated. Normal activities along the shoreline and in low-lying areas can proceed without concern.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• The continued presence of a strong high-pressure system greatly reduces flood potential.
• Unlike historical Category 3 and 4 events which featured lower pressures and/or stronger winds, the current scenario lacks those contributing factors.

Day 3: 2025-10-20

CATEGORY 1

WHAT
No flooding is expected. While moderate to high tidal levels will persist, the barometric pressure near 1029.6 hPa remains substantially above the low-pressure thresholds historically associated with coastal flooding.

WHEN
Peak tide near 15:42 local time. Conditions do not favor coastal flooding.

IMPACTS
No anticipated flooding impacts. Property damage or road closures are not expected.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• NOAA’s daily flood likelihood remains at 0% for the region.
• Even though tides near or above 18 ft have, in the past, contributed to minor or moderate flooding, the key difference here is the absence of low barometric pressure or onshore winds to elevate water levels.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

CATEGORY KEY

Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring.
Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
