Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2026-01-01

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
No risk of significant flooding. Tides will reach around 19.5 ft in the early afternoon, but the barometric pressure is exceptionally high (above 1033 hPa), reducing the threat of any coastal flood impacts.

WHEN
Highest tide near 1:36 PM PST.

IMPACTS
No notable flooding impacts anticipated. Shoreline areas remain safe from tidal inundation.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• Compared to historical Category 3 events, this tide is lower and occurs with much higher barometric pressure, making flooding unlikely.
• NOAA’s flood likelihood is minimal (0.2%), corroborating the very low risk for the day.

Day 2: 2026-01-02

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
No significant flooding expected. Although one high tide may exceed 20 ft around the early morning, the barometric pressure remains high (around 1024–1026 hPa), which lowers the overall risk.

WHEN
Highest tide near 5:06 AM PST, another high tide mid-afternoon.

IMPACTS
No real flood-related impacts anticipated. Minor ponding in very low-lying areas is possible but not expected to create hazardous conditions.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• NOAA projects a low flood likelihood of 3.8%.
• Comparisons with previous Category 3 events show those had lower barometric pressure or higher flood likelihood, so current conditions remain below the threshold for concern.

Day 3: 2026-01-03

CATEGORY 3

WHAT
Close to a flood event and worth monitoring, but widespread or severe flood damage is unlikely. High tides approach or exceed 20.6–20.7 ft early in the morning. Wind speeds are moderate and barometric pressure remains relatively high (~1025 hPa), mitigating the worst impacts.

WHEN
Highest tide near 5:48 AM PST and again mid-afternoon around 3:24 PM PST.

IMPACTS
Low-lying, exposed areas along the shoreline could see minor tidal overflow. While minor wetting of sea walls and immediate waterfront property is possible, serious property damage is not anticipated.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• NOAA indicates a “High” daily flood likelihood at 16.3% — higher than the previous two days. However, the high barometric pressure suggests less potential surge than found in historically more damaging events.
• Closely comparable to a past Category 3 event on 01/06/2025, where similar tide heights but somewhat lower air pressure produced minor flooding concerns.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

CATEGORY KEY

• Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
• Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring.
• Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
• Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
• Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
