Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2026-01-17

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
No flooding is expected. Observed tide levels will be elevated (peaking around the upper 19-foot range), but the barometric pressure is forecast to remain high (above 1027 hPa), which reduces the potential for coastal flooding.

WHEN
Highest tide risk periods are near 05:42 AM and again around mid-afternoon (approximately 3:00 PM PST), but flooding is not anticipated at this time.

IMPACTS
No significant impacts are expected. Low-lying areas and shoreline spots may see minor water encroachment but should remain below the threshold for any meaningful inundation.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• The high barometric pressure (1027+ hPa) substantially lowers the flood threat.
• NOAA’s flood likelihood for this date is very low (0.3%).
• Compared to historical Category 3 and 4 floods which had lower air pressure and higher tide peaks, these conditions fall well below thresholds for flooding.

Day 2: 2026-01-18

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
Still no immediate risk of flooding. Tide heights will again rise into the upper 19-foot range, but with even higher barometric pressure readings (around 1033 hPa), flood conditions are not supported.

WHEN
The highest tide near mid-afternoon (around 3:42 PM PST) could briefly cause water levels to run high along the shore, but all indications remain below minor flood potential.

IMPACTS
No known disruptions expected. Typical coastal areas may see slightly higher water levels, but the combination of stable weather and limited onshore winds suggest minimal impact.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• NOAA’s flood likelihood is reported at 0.6%, indicating low concern.
• Historically, comparable or higher tides have only caused flooding when paired with much lower atmospheric pressure.
• Winds are generally light and not pushing water onshore from W/NW, further minimizing risk.

Day 3: 2026-01-19

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
No flood risk is forecast. Tides may approach 20 feet around morning hours (roughly 6:24 AM PST), but with pressures consistently over 1030 hPa, meeting or exceeding historical flood triggers is unlikely.

WHEN
Look for the peak between early morning and mid-afternoon (particularly near 6:24 AM and 4:24 PM PST), but no significant flooding is expected during either high tide event.

IMPACTS
No notable issues for low-lying shorefront roads or properties. Normal caution should be used near the shoreline, but municipal infrastructure is unlikely to be impacted.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• NOAA flood likelihood is listed as low (0.8%).
• Even though the tide height briefly gets close to 20 feet, the barometric pressure remains distinctly higher than in past flooding events, reducing the risk significantly.
• Wind direction and speed continue to be minor factors.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

CATEGORY KEY

Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring.
Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
