Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2023-11-11

CATEGORY 2

WHAT... Low risk of flood due to moderate weather conditions and significant high tide levels.

WHEN... The highest risk is likely to occur during the peak high tide times between 13:30 and 15:30, where the tide level rises above 18 feet, combined with forecasted overcast weather which may contribute to rising water levels.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

The tide levels are forecasted to reach a maximum of approximately 19.02 feet on this day. Although this is significantly lower than the historical flood event threshold of 21 feet, caution is still advised due to the high tide. The barometric pressure is expected to be around 1008 to 1014, higher than the threshold of the reference flood event (<= 966), suggesting a lower risk of a storm surge contributing to flooding. Clear weather with no significant precipitation also reduces the flood risk.

Day 2: 2023-11-12

CATEGORY 1

WHAT... Very low risk of flood due to mild weather conditions and moderate high tide levels.

WHEN... Although high tides will occur, the maximum expected tide level is around 18.90 feet early in the morning, which does not pose a significant threat by itself without other contributing weather factors.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Barometric pressure remains above the critical threshold at around 1018 to 1019, and weather conditions are expected to be cloudy with little chance of rain, thereby minimizing the risk of flooding. The absence of precipitation and lower tide levels compared to Day 1 further reduce the potential for flooding on this day.

Day 3: 2023-11-13

CATEGORY 2

WHAT... Low risk of flood due to expected moderate rain and high tide levels.

WHEN... Similar to Day 1, close attention should be given during peak high tide times between approximately 13:00 and 15:00, with a maximum tide level forecasted at around 19.08 feet.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Moderate rain could contribute to higher water levels when combined with the day's high tide. The barometric pressure will be slightly lower than on previous days, ranging from around 1007 to 1013, but still well above critical storm surge levels. While not as severe as the historical flood event, caution should be exercised due to the conjunction of rain and high tide.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Always consult with local authorities or experts for final decision-making in flood-related situations.
