Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2024-02-07

CATEGORY 2

WHAT Minor coastal flooding expected. Possible inundation of up to 0.5 feet above ground level near shorelines and low-lying areas.

*WHEN From 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM PST and again from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM PST.

IMPACTS Minor flooding of low-lying areas, parks, and roads. Isolated road closures possible.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

The barometric pressure during the high tides is significantly higher than the threshold associated with previous flood events, indicating less severe weather conditions and a lower likelihood of major flooding. The tide heights are not reaching the levels seen in historical Category 4 or higher events. However, given the high tide levels, some minor coastal flooding is still possible.

Day 2: 2024-02-08

CATEGORY 2

WHAT Minor coastal flooding potential persists with slight inundation near shorelines and low-lying areas.

WHEN From 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM PST and again around 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM PST.

IMPACTS Similar to Day 1, expect minor nuisance flooding in susceptible areas. The risk of significant property damage remains low.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

The barometric pressure remains high, reducing the risk of severe weather conditions that could lead to major flooding. The tide heights are elevated but do not surpass critical thresholds observed in past significant flood events. Wind data is not provided, but based on the pressure and tide information, the flood risk remains categorized at level 2.

Day 3: 2024-02-09

CATEGORY 3

WHAT Increased risk of coastal flooding with potential for up to 1 foot of inundation above ground level in some areas.

WHEN From 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM PST and again from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM PST.

IMPACTS Moderate flooding of low-lying areas, parks, roads, and possibly some residential or commercial properties located very close to the shoreline.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

On Day 3, the barometric pressure slightly decreases but still remains above the threshold for major flood events. The tide height is approaching levels that have previously been associated with Category 4 events but does not quite reach them. NOAA's Flood Likelihood Analysis indicates a very low likelihood of flooding; however, the distance to threshold is decreasing compared to previous days. This suggests a slightly higher risk than Days 1 and 2, warranting a Category 3 classification for caution.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Residents and businesses near the shore should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Consult local authorities or experts for final decision-making in flood-related situations.
