Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2025-03-09

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
No coastal flooding is expected. Although there is a relatively high tide reaching around 19.0 feet in the early morning hours, barometric pressure remains moderate (around 1011 hPa), and NOAA’s flood likelihood is 0%.

WHEN
Highest tide near 03:00 AM PST.

IMPACTS
No significant flooding impacts anticipated. Low-lying areas along the shore should remain unaffected under current conditions.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Recent historical Category 3 events typically included higher tides (around or above 20 feet) and lower barometric pressure. In comparison, Day 1’s tide height is lower and pressure is not especially low, supporting a determination of Category 2 (no risk).

Day 2: 2025-03-10

CATEGORY 3

WHAT
Close to a flood event and worth monitoring. Early-morning tides may reach around 19.3+ feet, combined with somewhat lower pressure near 1003 hPa.

WHEN
Highest concern from about 03:00 AM to 04:00 AM PST when tide and pressure align.

IMPACTS
Despite NOAA’s 0% flood likelihood, the pairing of a higher tide and relatively lower barometric pressure means minor coastal overwash is possible in the most vulnerable spots. Widespread flooding or damage is not expected.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Historical Category 4–5 events usually involve tides exceeding 20 feet with pressures at or below about 992 hPa. Here, although the tide is high, the pressure is not expected to drop into the lower 990s. Winds are primarily from the south, which lessens the onshore push compared to a westerly flow. This keeps risk in Category 3: close to a flood event but unlikely to cause significant damage.

Day 3: 2025-03-11

CATEGORY 3

WHAT
Continued close-to-flood-event conditions. The highest early-morning tide may peak near 19.5 feet, though barometric pressure (about 1004 hPa) remains above critical low thresholds.

WHEN
Greatest tide heights close to 04:00 AM PST, along with a secondary high tide in the afternoon (near 2:48 PM PST) at lower levels but slightly lower pressure (~1001 hPa).

IMPACTS
Minor ponding in very low areas is possible, but extensive flooding remains unlikely. NOAA forecasts a 0% flood likelihood, so impacts overall should be minimal.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Although the peak tide is slightly higher than Day 2, the pressure is not extremely low and is expected to remain above the 992.8 hPa range often associated with stronger coastal flooding. Winds continue mainly from the south/southeast, reducing push toward the shoreline.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.
