Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2025-03-11

CATEGORY 3

WHAT
Coastal water levels will reach around 19.5 ft early in the morning with a barometric pressure near 1003 hPa. Conditions are close to a flood threshold and worth monitoring, but widespread flood damage is not expected.

WHEN
Highest tidal levels Tuesday morning around 4:00–4:30 AM PST and again in the early afternoon (around 2:00–3:00 PM PST), though the highest tide of about 19.5 ft occurs near sunrise.

IMPACTS
• Minor flooding of extremely low-lying areas is possible, though significant property impacts are unlikely.
• Brief ponding on roads close to the shoreline may occur.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• Compared with past events, these tide heights are somewhat high but the barometric pressure is not as low as in more severe flood events.
• Historically, tides over ~19 ft can sometimes cause localized issues, but the moderately low atmospheric pressure (around 1003 hPa) is not near the critically low ~992 hPa level that has led to worse flooding in the past.
• Conditions warrant attention, but no major impacts are anticipated.

Day 2: 2025-03-12

CATEGORY 3

WHAT
Morning tides are expected to approach 19.5 ft again with barometric pressure near 1007 hPa. While close to prior flood thresholds, widespread flooding is unlikely.

WHEN
Highest risk around 4:00–4:45 AM PST. Evening tides will be significantly lower, with next high tide near 8:00–9:00 PM PST coming in well below critical levels.

IMPACTS
• Similar to Day 1, minor flooding in very low-lying coastal areas is possible.
• Brief localized water on roads or parking areas immediately adjacent to the shoreline may occur.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• This closely matches prior moderate-tide conditions in which no major property damage was reported.
• Higher barometric pressure than Day 1 (around 1007 hPa) helps limit more serious flooding.
• Monitoring is advised, but conditions should remain below damaging flood levels.

Day 3: 2025-03-13

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
Tides are forecast up to around 19.4 ft in the early morning, but the barometric pressure remains high (above 1024 hPa). This combination suggests substantially reduced flood risk compared to lower-pressure scenarios.

WHEN
Highest tide around 5:00 AM PST. Afternoon high tide near 4:00 PM PST will be lower and also accompanied by a very high barometric pressure.

IMPACTS
• No significant flooding is expected.
• Only very minimal water encroachment along the most flood-prone coastal spots could occur, but broader impacts are unlikely.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

• Historically, higher barometric pressure above ~1020 hPa has correlated with considerably reduced flood potential even when tides approach 20 ft.
• Conditions on Day 3 align more with a “no substantial flood” scenario.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

CATEGORY KEY

• Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
• Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring, but unlikely to cause flood damage.
• Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
• Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
• Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
