Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2025-04-13

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
Tides will reach moderate levels (peaking around 18 ft), but higher barometric pressure near 1006–1008 hPa and calm northerly winds reduce the risk of flooding. NOAA indicates a 0% flood likelihood.

WHEN
Highest tide periods near 04:30 AM and 12:54 PM local time.

IMPACTS
No anticipated flooding. Shore areas might experience typical higher-than-usual water levels, but no road closures or significant impact is expected.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Despite tide heights exceeding those from some past Category 3 events, the barometric pressure is not low and the NOAA forecasted flood likelihood remains at 0%. Historically, severe flooding has often involved pressures below ~992 hPa combined with tides over 21 ft. These conditions are not present on Day 1.

Day 2: 2025-04-14

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
Moderately high tides approach 18+ ft later in the day, but pressure remains above 1005 hPa during the highest tides. NOAA still indicates no flood risk (0% likelihood).

WHEN
Highest tides around 13:36 PM and 18:36 PM local time.

IMPACTS
No anticipated flooding. Minor tidal fluctuations expected along the shoreline, with minimal if any impact to property or infrastructure.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

The pressure for the midday high tide remains near 1005 hPa—still higher than thresholds historically linked with notable flood events. Winds are moderate and largely from a northerly direction, which tends not to push water onshore. This contrasts with past Category 4 and 5 events, often correlated with lower pressures near or below 992 hPa and substantially higher tides.

Day 3: 2025-04-15

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
High tides will once again reach around 18 ft by the evening, with barometric pressure forecast above 1005 hPa. NOAA continues to report a 0% flood likelihood.

WHEN
Highest tides near 05:18 AM and 19:18 PM local time.

IMPACTS
No flooding is expected. Conditions may cause brief rises in water levels along low-lying coastal zones, but no closures or significant inundation.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

While tides remain moderately high, pressure readings do not match the low levels that have frequently contributed to flooding in historical Category 4–5 scenarios. Coupled with NOAA’s low flood risk assessment, this places Day 3 in the no-flood-risk range.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

CATEGORY KEY

• Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
• Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring.
• Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
• Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
• Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
