Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2025-05-14

CATEGORY 3

WHAT
Tide forecasts show a high tide peaking near 19.2 ft around the early evening (about 7:00 PM). Barometric pressure (~1005–1008 hPa) remains well above historically low thresholds that often trigger more serious flooding. Overall, this places conditions “close to a flood event,” worth monitoring, but not likely to cause damage.

WHEN
Highest tide risk window: Approximately 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on 2025-05-14.

IMPACTS
• Minor splashing over seawalls or onto low-lying roads could briefly occur, but no significant property damage is expected.
• Occasional ponding in very low-lying areas is possible.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Historically, Category 3 events in Redondo Beach have included tide heights around 17–20 ft with barometric pressure above 1000 hPa. Today’s tide of about 19.2 ft falls in that range, but without extremely low pressure (<993 hPa), the likelihood of actual flood damage is low.

Day 2: 2025-05-15

CATEGORY 3

WHAT
Two notable high tides occur—one in the early morning (around 5:00 AM, ~17.4 ft) with slightly lower pressure (~1002.96 hPa), and another in the evening (just under 19.3 ft) at about 8:00 PM, but with higher pressure (~1011.7 hPa). Combined, these remain “close to a flood event,” mainly due to elevated tides, but damage is unlikely.

WHEN
• Morning high tide risk: Approximately 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM.
• Evening high tide risk: Approximately 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

IMPACTS
• Minor pooling of water on low-lying beaches or some harbors.
• Little to no property damage anticipated due to relatively stable weather and no indication of extremely low pressure.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Compared with previous Category 4 or 5 floods, today’s tides do not exceed 21 ft and the barometric pressure is not near the low (<993 hPa) historically linked with stronger storm surges. These factors keep flood risk at Category 3 levels.

Day 3: 2025-05-16

CATEGORY 3

WHAT
High tide peaks near 19.2 ft during the evening (about 8:30–9:00 PM). Barometric pressure (~1009–1010 hPa) is moderate, not approaching the critical low levels that have been known to intensify coastal flooding.

WHEN
Highest tidal influence expected from about 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM on 2025-05-16.

IMPACTS
• Occasional shallow inundation in the most vulnerable coastal spots, but no significant property damage is expected.
• Conditions remain suitable for normal coastal activities with minor caution.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Even though tides hover near 19 ft, they remain well below the 21+ ft historically associated with more serious flooding. Winds are forecast to be relatively light, further reducing surge potential.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

CATEGORY KEY

Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring.
Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
