Flood Watch

Redondo Beach, WA

Day 1: 2025-05-21

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
No significant flooding is expected. Peak tide heights will approach about 19.3 ft late in the evening but will remain below critical flood thresholds. Barometric pressure is relatively high (above 1013 hPa), and NOAA’s flood likelihood remains at 0%.

WHEN
Highest tide near 23:54, with a barometric pressure above 1013 hPa throughout the day.

IMPACTS
No known impacts expected in coastal or low-lying areas at this time.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Compared to historical Category 3 or higher events, today’s tide heights are slightly lower and barometric pressure is substantially higher. Past Category 3 events (for example, 01/06/2025 at around 20.68 ft) typically featured slightly higher tides and active “flooding likely” indicators. NOAA data also shows zero likelihood of flooding, consistent with a Category 2 rating indicating no substantial risk.

Day 2: 2025-05-22

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
No significant flooding anticipated. Tide levels will briefly approach 19.4 ft near midnight, but prevailing pressures around 1016–1017 hPa remain well above the low-pressure threshold that typically contributes to coastal flooding.

WHEN
Main high tides at approximately 00:18 and 12:48.

IMPACTS
No flood impacts expected. Low-lying and shoreline areas should remain unaffected under current conditions.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Historically, Category 4 or 5 events have involved faster onshore winds, tides exceeding 20 ft, and/or barometric pressure below 1000 hPa. Today’s situation falls well short of those conditions, and NOAA’s official outlook remains at 0% flood likelihood, supporting a Category 2 assessment (no risk).

Day 3: 2025-05-23

CATEGORY 2

WHAT
No significant flooding is expected. Maximum tides around 19.6 ft overnight remain below typical coastal flood trigger levels. Although barometric pressure dips slightly to around 1012.7 hPa in the afternoon, it is still well above the 992.8 hPa threshold.

WHEN
Highest tide near 00:54 (19.58 ft), followed by a secondary peak around midday (16.8 ft).

IMPACTS
No observed or forecast impacts to infrastructure or transportation corridors. Minor tidal fluctuations are not likely to reach flood levels.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

Even though 19.6 ft is relatively high, the continued moderate barometric pressure and gentle wind conditions keep the likelihood of flood-inducing surge very low. NOAA forecasts a 0% flood likelihood, consistent with no potential for significant coastal inundation. This places Day 3 securely within Category 2 (no risk of flooding).

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

CATEGORY KEY

Categories 1-2: No risk of flooding.
Category 3: Close to a flood event and worth monitoring.
Category 4: Flooding is likely however, it is uncertain if this will cause major property damage.
Category 5: Likely to flood and cause property damage.
Categories 6-7: Extremely high risk of flooding and property damage.
